To
hang a quilt, make a muslin sleeve 2" shorter than the
width of your quilt and sew it onto the back of your quilt.
Run a wooden rod through the sleeve. Mount hooks on the wall
to hold the rod. The sleeve provides even support across the
width of the quilt, without placing strain on the fabric of
your quilt.

To
wash a quilt, place a sheet in the bathtub and fill the tub
with water. Add a small amount of quilt soap under the running
water to make suds. Place the quilt in the water and allow
it to soak. Do not wring the quilt. Rinse the quilt thoroughly;
it may take several rinses to remove all the soap. Dry the
quilt flat. Place it on a flat surface (for example, on a
bed over an old shower curtain liner to keep the bed dry)
and aim a fan at it to help circulate air over it. You can
also dry it outdoors on a sunny (but not too sunny) day. Place
a sheet down on the grass, then place the quilt face down
(to avoid fading) on the sheet. Be careful, however: make
sure your quilt is safe from wandering animals who may take
a liking to it!

Use
a pouncer to chalk a quilting design on your quilt, then spray
lightly with spray starch to give it a little more staying power.

Place
an empty fabric bolt board lengthwise underneath the back edge
of your sewing machine to tilt it forward slightly. This offers
better visibility of your work and saves your back!
